Early on in her acting career, Brooks landed roles in various films, including "Underground Agent" (1942), the musical "You Were Never Lovelier" (1942) with Fred Astaire and "City Without Men" (1943). She also appeared in "Two SeƱoritas From Chicago" (1943). Her passion for acting continued to her roles in projects like "What's Buzzin' Cousin?" (1943), "Cover Girl" (1944) and the mystery adaptation "Nine Girls" (1944) with Ann Harding. She also appeared in "Tonight and Every Night" (1945) with Rita Hayworth. Film continued to be her passion as she played roles in "Cigarette Girl" (1947), the mystery "The Corpse Came C.O.D." (1947) with George Brent and "Blonde Ice" (1948). She also appeared in the Paul Henreid crime flick "Hollow Triumph" (1948). Brooks more recently acted in the Jack Carson adventure "Romance on the High Seas" (1948).
